Menudetto vs Menutech (2026): the duel over allergens and translations

If you're looking for menu software that takes the allergens of EU Regulation 1169/2011 and multilingual translations seriously, Menutech and Menudetto are two of the names most consistent with that need — and it's only fair to say it upfront: Menutech has been doing this for much longer. Born in Berlin with a first prototype in 2016, Menutech GmbH is a specialised, mature product, co-funded by the EU Horizon 2020 programme. Menudetto was born in 2026 in Bari and plays a different game: fewer modules, a single price, a precise idea of how a menu gets updated (by voice, in chat or from a photo) and of who should have the last word on allergens (a human being).

The comparison at a glance

Allergens: two compliance philosophies

On the 14 allergens of EU Reg. 1169/2011 the two products cover the same regulatory perimeter, with different approaches.

Menutech bets on complete automation: allergens detected automatically, icons appearing on the menu by themselves, a dynamic legend and an allergen table generated and updated automatically. Beyond the 14 EU allergens, it manages labels for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, halal and kosher: a broader dietary coverage than ours.

Menudetto uses AI for detection, but publishes nothing without mandatory human confirmation: the restaurateur reviews every allergen declaration before it goes online. On a piece of data that can have health and legal consequences, we prefer the last signature to belong to the person who cooks. On Menutech's allergen page we found no reference to a human confirmation step; that doesn't mean an internal process doesn't exist, but on our side it is an explicit product constraint. Translations: 16 languages versus 6

Here the point goes to Menutech, no beating around the bush. Their translations page lists 16 menu translation languages — from Croatian to Arabic, from Estonian to Finnish — with translations declared "human translated and curated" from certified sources, and with automatically generated translations highlighted so the user can check them. They also state, based on their own study of 10,000 menus across 15 countries, that a bilingual daily menu takes about 5 minutes against the previous 45.

Menudetto translates automatically into 6 languages (it, en, es, fr, de, pt): they cover a large share of southern Europe's tourist flows, but if you work with Russian, Arabic or Scandinavian clientele, today Menutech covers languages we don't have.

Editing: a structured web app versus chat, voice and photo

Menutech is a responsive web application with a rich modular architecture: recipe management, diets, menu automation, locations and products, all the way to order-taking — each activatable as an add-on. The plans include monthly quotas of AI features ("AI dishes" and "AI analyses") that grow with the plan.

Menudetto has a single way of working, built for people who change the menu between one service and the next: you type in chat, dictate by voice ("mark the parmigiana as sold out") or photograph the paper menu, and the digital menu updates itself. Sold-out is one tap — or one sentence. The public menu also exposes WebMCP: in-page tools that let your customers' AI assistants query the menu directly. What we don't have: table orders or payments — if you need them, Menutech has a dedicated add-on.

Pricing: a modular architecture versus a single price

Menutech's price list is transparent and articulated: five self-service plans from €20 to €180/month, differentiated by the number of new menus per month (from 1 to unlimited), templates, AI quotas and backups; three vertical Enterprise plans (Gastronomy €390, Healthcare and Senior Care €475/month) with multi-user, recipe management and 7-days-a-week support; eight add-ons with a public price, from €6/month per diet for Diet management to €120/month for Locations management. An architecture designed for hotels, caterers, care homes, healthcare and schools. A 10-day trial with no card; a permanent free plan is not present on the pricing page.

Menudetto has two lines on its price list: Free forever (1 restaurant, 1 menu, classic layout, with QR, allergens and 6 languages included) and Pro at €19/month VAT included, with unlimited restaurants and menus, dish photos, themes and team — the details are on our pricing page. No add-ons, no quotas to monitor. A note of fairness: our €19 is VAT included, while Menutech's pricing page does not indicate the VAT treatment — the direct €19 vs €20 comparison should be read with that caution.

When to choose Menutech

• You need more than 6 languages. With 16 translation languages, including Arabic, Russian and the Nordic and Baltic languages, Menutech covers markets Menudetto doesn't reach today.
• You are a healthcare facility, a care home or a canteen. The vertical Enterprise plans for Healthcare and Senior Care, the per-diet Diet management and the halal/kosher/lactose-free labels are built for collective catering.
• You want a mature, institutionally solid vendor. Almost ten years of history, a Berlin headquarters and an EU Horizon 2020 co-funding (grant 826923) verifiable on CORDIS are guarantees a 2026 product cannot offer.
• You need order-taking or a modular setup (recipes, locations, procurement) to compose to measure.
• You want to try with no commitment: a 10-day trial with no credit card.

When to choose Menudetto

• You update the menu often and fast. Voice, chat or a photo of the paper menu: none of the products we compare offers voice editing.
• You want a human signature on allergens. The AI proposes, you confirm: nothing goes online without your explicit OK.
• You prefer a price that fits in one sentence. Free forever, or €19/month VAT included with everything unlimited.
• You care about the future of menus readable by AI assistants. WebMCP is, as far as we know, unique in the category.
• You work with southern-European tourism and the 6 languages it/en/es/fr/de/pt are enough for you.
